Hum koi waqt nahi hain humdum, jab bulaoge chale aayenge...

This was probably my first encounter with beauty of words. Then I delved deeper and with each Ghazal, the appreciation deepened. The synonym of ghazals and nazms- Jagjit Singh passed away today. Its a life well led. One after another, i sifted through my playlist and couldn't decide which was the best ghazal...

It started with 'Tere khat' where i would find myself deep in thoughts of eternal love...What beauty!

"Tere khat aj mein ganga mein baha aaya hoon....
aag behte hue paani ko laga aaya hoon..."

and then it slowly found its way throuh 'Arth' and 'Saath-Saath'

As he would slowly conclude with "Kyun samajhti ho mujhe bhool nahi paogi," I would be filled with mixed feelings of if he is mocking at her helplessness or pushing her to liberation.

The urge of "Ek zara haath badha de to pakad le daaman, uske seene mein sama jaaye hamari dhadkan, itni qurbat hai to itna faasla kyun hai" the difficultly of grasping core urdu words overrode timelessness of the lyrics.

There was flirting with "tum jo saath ho imli meethi lagti hai, tum jo nahi to shahad bhi khaara lagta hai, tere chehra kitna suhana lagta hai..."

..and young expression of subdues realization with "Ishq kijiye phir samajhiye zindagi kya cheez hai..."

And the amazing part is how the man managed through riding on wave after wave of generation to others with equal xing...

I have burnt my player repeating " Hum koi waqt nahi hain humdum, jab bulaoge chale aayenge" I gasp and choke to think what can ever be more reassuring than this?

There are endless masterpieces-
A broken heart's melancholy in "tum hamare nahi toh kya gum hai, hum tumhare to hai; ye kya kam hai..

A distant lovers' story of "Tere aane ki jab khabar mehke, teri khushboo se saara ghar mehke.."

A secretive affair of "baat niklegi to phir door talaq jaayegi...." and missing someone in "Shaam se aankh mein nami si hai

There's my dad's favorite evergreen song "Kal chudhavi ki raat thi, shab bhar raha charcha tera.."

and endless yearning of "Hazaaron khwahishein aisi ki har khwahish pe dum nikle...

I am glad i have attended one of his live concert. His songs are truly mesmerizing. I wonder if it was depth of his voice or reflection of personal grief-but it is unparalleled.
I can safely assume my playlist of ghazals will not have any addition for times to come..

"Shaam se aankh mein nami si hai, aaj phir aapki kami si hai..."

The people who walk out of your life irrespective of your tries to keep them. You try. You do the best you can in the situation to keep them. And it just falls short. Definitely times when you stop, gaze up to the stars and hope and pray that this better be a good part of the Divine Scheme.

Lacklessness of a Yes

"No." Its not just a word; it's a complete sentence in itself... This dialogue got its overdue appreciation in the hindi movie 'Pink' wherein a lawyer is trying to point out meaning of No on behalf of the protagonist and all women in general... He says this regarding consent and how a simple No is a sentence in itself in all matters of will and accord. I completely agree with it though that's not what this post is about. That's the trigger of my particular thought which got pronounced in following months after watching the movie. My thought was a complete antithesis of the point presented. Later I happen to be attending a training where it came up how one must be assertive and not hesitate when they want to say No. This is known to be a very common problem it seems that people find it difficult to say No. It maybe to reject someone's idea or proposal or in general extends to all experiences in professional and personal life. Like you came with no return ticket

I wanted you like... ..like you came with no return ticket, and I wanted you like you came with no expiry. I've seen the world and met people and heard their stories and I always wonder how businesses and capitalism and all around it works on Love. Expensive flight tickets, that weekend stay-cation, an extension of Visa and everything around it...it is all driven by Love. If people didn't wanna make people happy or be there and stay in life, it would have been so different. Whether it be flight tickets or doctor's appointments, hotel bookings or online shopping...you will find yourself always overpaying because the reason is Love. the anomaly of prices and markets is explained by only one thing...and they thought it could be explained by technical charts. We know that . I met this girl in Moldova who was taking a 1 am bus in snow laden night because that was what she did. She was a Russian dating a Ukrainian and because of some army duty and region specific rules,
